Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will miss another Pro Bowl on Sunday as he prepares for his ninth Super Bowl appearance next weekend.
Brady has been selected to 14 Pro Bowl teams over the course of his career, including a current streak of 10 consecutive years, but the Patriots QB hasn’t actually suited up for the game since 2005.
In an conversation with Sports Illustrated’s Robert Klemko, former Patriots LB Brandon Spikes told an incredible Brady story of a year he was crushed after learning he wasn’t selected to the Pro Bowl team. While many of Spikes teammates tried to console him, the Patriots QB bluntly told Spikes to get over it.
Via Sports Illustrated:
“I didn’t get picked to go to the Pro Bowl. I was moping around, actually in tears, and a few guys were trying to lift me up, like, ‘It’s gonna be alright man. We’ve got to worry about what’s in front of us.’ Then The Pharaoh himself walks up to me – I used to call Brady The Pharoah and he hated that—Brady walks up to me and says, ‘Hey B, you think I play this [expletive] to go to Pro Bowls? Get it together. Get your head up. We’re trying to win rings. That’s what it is here.’”
Spikes played for the Patriots for four seasons, but never won a ring in New England thanks to Eli Manning and the Giants. Spikes also never made a Pro Bowl team, but at least he has two BCS national championship rings from his Florida days.
